Packing Your Space -

It is always best if you can create a walkway through your space. That way you can retrieve items without having to move things out of the way. Store your most frequently used items in the front of your unit so that you car get at them most easily. Store your valuable items in the rear of your unit and try to pack your unit right up to the ceiling.

Storing Furniture -

Apply a heavy coat of good quality furniture polish to your wood furniture before storing and then cover with old sheet or cloth coverings rather than plastic or vinyl. Store couches and love seats on end if possible so that you can save space.

Boxes -

Completely fill all of your boxes. (Full boxes stack much better and result in less damage while moving.) Pack your heavy items in smaller boxes and your lighter items in larger boxes. Seal your boxes with masking tape and make sure to label each box so that you can more easily find the items you need.

Vehicles -

Park cars by heading into the storage unit so that exhaust gases will be minimized. It is a good idea to place a sheet of cardboard beneath the oil pan of your vehicle so that oil and lubricant stains do not occur. Please remember that we do not allow the storage of gasoline or other flammable materials in our storage units.

Additional Tips -

A climate controlled storage room is ideal if you are storing heat-sensitive goods such as videotapes, albums, photographs and precious wood furniture.
Have blankets, draperies and out-of-season clothing cleaned, then pack them right on the hanger in a wardrobe box.
Pack books flat, not standing on end (which may cause damage to the spines). Books are extremely heavy, so don't pack too many in one box.
Drain gasoline and oil from lawn mowers and other items with small engines.
If you're storing tables and other furniture, remove legs and disassemble to conserve storage space.
Old photographs tend to curl over time. To keep them flat, place them between two pieces of cardboard and tape them together.
When packing your storage unit, create a center aisle for access to all items.
Store items you'll need most often at the front of the unit.
Never over-pack boxes. Overfilled boxes will rupture and topple when stacked.
Clean and dry appliances. Keep refrigerator doors slightly ajar and use the space inside these items for additional storage
